THEME: INTEGRAL RESEARCH IN HEALTH, EDUCATION, SOCIAL INNOVATION AND LAW:
LESSONS FROM THE PAXHERBALS PROJECT IN EWU.
Introduction
The Paxherbals project which originated at the Benedictine Monastery in Ewu, Edo State of Nigeria has been heralded as a success story in the development of “traditional” herbal remedies in Nigeria and the possibilities for the provision of primary health care in communities in Nigeria and Africa. But it is much more than this. It is an experiment and pilot project for “Integral” or Holistic Participatory Action Research which has given birth to the Ofure (Pax) Integral Research and Development Initiative (OFIRDI).
This first workshop of the ACIRD seeks to explore the challenges and lessons which the Paxherbals project has highlighted for Integral Research in the areas of Education and Land Law and Governance in Nigeria.
We have invited papers on these key areas as well as two papers that examine global trends and implications for sustainable development in Nigeria and Africa.
These papers and contributions will be published by the ACIRD in August 2017 ahead of a bigger conference scheduled for October 2017.
